How do I set up an RSS feed?

An RSS feed allows you to display an online newsfeed on your digital signage screen(s). You can show the latest updates from your favorite sources, be it the New York Times, CNN, Reuters, Mashable, Vox or wherever you like to get your news. The content is updated regularly and automatically.

Here's how to set up an RSS feed in the CrownTV dashboard.

1. Add the RSS Feed app to My Apps

In the dashboard, go to the App Store. Hover over the RSS Feed app and click 'Add this App'.

2. Configure your RSS feed

After clicking 'Add this App', you'll see a dialogue box pop up with options for your RSS feed.

First, give your feed a name:

Give the feed a name, then choose a feed source. You can either copy and paste the URL of your desired feed (example: https://feeds.a.dj.com/rss/RSSWorldNews.xml), or click 'Popular Feeds' to choose from the pre-populated list.

Next, choose how many seconds you'd like each newsfeed post to display for:

The date range of the posts you'd like to display:

The maximum number of posts you'd like to display:

And a theme:

Then click 'Select Layout for Your Feed' to choose a layout:

When you're finished, click 'Add App'. You'll then see your new RSS Feed under the My Apps tab.

3. Add the RSS feed to a playlist

You can either create a new playlist and add the RSS feed to it, or add it to an existing playlist. In this example, we'll add it to an existing playlist.

Go to Playlists > My Playlists, and click on the playlist you'd like to add the RSS feed to.

Under Type, select Apps and click 'Apply'.

Find the RSS feed you just created, and click on it. You can also choose how many times you'd like the RSS feed to repeat in your playlist by clicking the + or - surrounding '1'. We've chosen 2, so you'll see the RSS feed app twice under the Content Order.

Drag and drop to change the content order:

When you're finished, click 'Save' in the upper right corner. Make sure the playlist is set to 'Play', and it will include your RSS feed!
